Red Hat-hosted KubeCon + CloudNativeCon EU 2026 features “Sovereign AI” as a key topic, which has become an important discussion point for enterprises. As regulatory environments become more stringent and geopolitical tensions increase, organizations worldwide recognize that sovereign AI is a critical theme for transforming how businesses build and operate their infrastructure. According to Vincent Caldeira, CTO of Red Hat Asia Pacific, it is estimated that by 2030, over 75% of companies outside the United States will have digital sovereignty strategies.

Regarding the importance of sovereign AI, Caldeira defines it as “the ability to control one’s own digital destiny,” explaining, “Such strategies have gone beyond mere compliance or security, extending to ensuring economic competitiveness and managing cybersecurity risks.” He emphasizes that the competition between nations and the opportunity to acquire AI factory-building capabilities are profoundly influencing this concept of sovereignty.

Roberta Caratella and Caldeira discussed the impact of sovereign AI strategies on enterprise architecture during this historic event, covering needs from model traceability to deployment flexibility. They pointed out that interoperability between deployment environments, model transparency required to build trust, and cost control of accelerator infrastructure collectively form the foundation of Red Hat’s sovereign AI approach. As AI production costs rise, Red Hat continues to work on ensuring access to cost-effective models.
