Chinese and North American gold investors reacted differently to the Iran war:

North American ETF gold holdings decreased by 2 million ounces in March, reaching the lowest level of the year.
Meanwhile, Chinese gold ETF funds increased by 500,000 ounces, reaching about 10 million ounces, close to the highest point of the year.
Since the beginning of 2026, gold holdings in Chinese ETFs have increased by nearly 2 million ounces.
At the same time, North American gold ETFs decreased by 1 million ounces, as early-year profits were wiped out by outflows in March.
Chinese investors are buying as gold prices decline.
