Bitget, the world’s largest general-purpose exchange (UEX), announced the release of “The UEX Security Standard: From Proof to Protection,” a report co-authored by Bitget and blockchain security firm BlockSec. The report proposes a systematic security framework designed specifically for exchanges that encompass encrypted assets, tokenized assets, and traditional financial markets within a unified account environment.
System-Level Security Challenges in the Era of General-Purpose Exchanges
As trading platforms evolve into universal exchanges (UEX), security challenges are no longer limited to custody of single assets or on-chain protection. The term UEX was first introduced by Bitget CEO Gracy Chen during Bitget’s seventh anniversary, representing a fundamental shift in trading infrastructure.
In environments with unified margin systems, shared settlement architectures, and cross-market access, new risks emerge. Any failure at the account, data, or permission level can trigger chain reactions across different products and asset classes. This report focuses on these challenges, elevating security discussions from fragmented protective measures to sustainable, verifiable system resilience.
Five Core Security Standards and Practical Implementation
The “UEX Security Standard” defines five core standards for next-generation exchanges: verifiable solvency, multi-asset risk isolation, data security and privacy protection, AI-driven dynamic monitoring, and resilient application and infrastructure defenses. These standards collectively ensure risks are effectively managed, system correctness can be verified, and trust can scale with platform complexity.
This framework builds upon security measures already implemented by Bitget, including regular Proof of Reserves disclosures and robust user protection funds. Additionally, through collaboration with BlockSec, it enhances real-time monitoring, proactive security testing, incident response preparedness, AML screening, and fund tracing—ensuring compliance-level controls.
Gracy Chen, CEO of Bitget, stated: “Transforming into a universal exchange fundamentally changes the nature of security risks. Security is no longer just about single assets or post-incident disclosures; it must operate at the system level—identifying risks early, designing for isolation, and verifying in real environments.”
From BlockSec’s perspective, the report reflects an industry-wide shift toward integrated security architectures. Yajin Zhou, co-founder and CEO of BlockSec, commented: “UEX is not just a product upgrade but a structural transformation of trading infrastructure and security models. When native crypto assets are combined with stocks, ETFs, and other off-chain tools, security boundaries expand significantly. Platforms must ensure asset transparency, pricing integrity, and protect off-chain dependencies with standards equivalent to on-chain systems. UEX requires a verifiable, scalable unified security framework to support multi-asset trading.”
The report also emphasizes transparency, emergency response capabilities, and user education as essential components of a comprehensive security model. Security is positioned as an operational discipline that must evolve continuously with market structures and product complexity, rather than a static feature.
The “UEX Security Standard” report aims to serve as a key reference for exchanges, regulators, and market participants as they advance toward next-generation multi-asset trading infrastructure.
