庭审证词显示，Halem及同伙穿着印有警察标识的背心，乘电梯到18楼，并使用同伙提供的密码进入公寓。他们用洛杉矶警察局配发的手铐制服受害者及其女友，索要硬盘。尽管青少年承认通过欺诈手段获得加密货币财富，但这并未影响抢劫指控。
Halem曾在洛杉矶警察局服役13年，2022年离职。案发时，他仍为预备役警官，并经营DriveLA汽车租赁公司，同时开发面向演员的应用程序，并计划制作真人秀节目。法院定于3月31日对其量刑，其他被告尚未受审，检方称其中一人与所谓“以色列黑手党”有关。
分析人士指出，该案凸显了加密货币在现实世界犯罪中成为目标的风险，也提醒投资者妥善保管数字资产，防范潜在抢劫和诈骗事件。
