伊朗于 2019 年将加密货币挖矿合法化，允许获得许可的运营商使用补贴电力，并将挖到的比特币出售给中央银行。近年来的估计表明，伊朗在全球比特币挖矿算力中所占份额在 2% 到 5% 之间。
伊朗伊斯兰革命卫队（IRGC）作为该国的主要军事力量，此后不断深化其在加密货币领域的影响力。Chainalysis 估计，2025 年第四季度，与 IRGC 相关的地址占伊朗加密货币总流入量的 50% 以上，去年收到的金额超过 30 亿美元。
