Recently, I saw a bunch of yield aggregators claiming APY as if it were free money, only to find out after clicking in that there are several layers behind: first throwing your money into a pool, then borrowing / staking / chain swapping, adding more layers to the contract, my heart races… Basically, the returns are not falling from the sky, but risk is being moved around. The most annoying part is the counterparty side, the page says “strategy automation,” but in reality, it’s just you trusting someone to operate for you, where the keys are, and who takes the blame if something goes wrong. Then these days, memes and celebrity shoutouts are getting lively again, newcomers excitedly ask me “Is this annualized yield guaranteed to win?” I really want to laugh but also get a bit angry: don’t just stare at the numbers, first see how many strangers’ contracts and promises you’re handing your money over to. Anyway, I’d rather go slow, earn less, and sleep well.
