If you are already an adult, with a simple personality and straightforward thoughts, it is usually not due to a lack of personal ability, but rather because the growth environment did not provide the conditions to learn complex interpersonal interactions. A person's social skills largely stem from the examples and training provided by the family in early childhood, rather than being innate.

The first common situation is that parents are honest and straightforward, repeatedly emphasizing kindness, obedience, and tolerance, but lack the ability to handle conflicts and establish boundaries. When children are bullied outside, parents are unable to offer specific coping methods and even expect children to endure silently. This leads to a critical loss in the child's development of how to protect themselves and respond to conflicts. Since children primarily learn to interact with the world through imitation of their parents, when there are no clear social boundaries or conflict resolution templates at home, adults tend to appear awkward and naive in social relationships, wavering between trying to please others and avoiding social interactions. Essentially, this reflects a lack of control over the social world.

The second situation involves parents who treat their children with long-term belittling, mockery, or emotional neglect. When children are constantly denied when expressing opinions, achieving results, or showing emotions, they gradually develop a psychological defense mechanism called "learned helplessness," which involves suppressing emotions and needs, becoming obedient and easy to manage. The "innocence" shaped by this environment is not true kindness but a survival strategy. As adults, such individuals often do not feel anger when others infringe upon them but quickly fall into helplessness and retreat, making it difficult to effectively defend their interests.

The third situation is that the family has good material conditions, but parents have an extremely strong desire for control, taking over almost all choices for their children. From daily life to major life decisions, children lack autonomy for a long time, leading to severe suppression of self-awareness and independent thinking. Because they have no opportunity to practice decision-making, trial and error, or bearing consequences during growth, their mental development and ability to handle complex problems are hindered. When entering society, these individuals often appear obedient, compliant, and lacking in opinions. They seem simple but are actually in a powerless state due to limited capacity. Once they lose parental protection, they are prone to anxiety or breakdown.

Overall, being unshrewd and unaware of worldly affairs is not a personal flaw but a result of an environment that has not provided individuals with the "scripts" and training to handle complex social relationships. Therefore, it is normal and understandable that they cannot learn to be worldly-wise under these circumstances.

Psychology also points out that the innocence formed in such backgrounds often comes with underestimated advantages, such as higher internal consistency and sincerity. Because they are not good at scheming and performing, their psychological energy is less consumed by scheming others or maintaining personas, allowing them to focus more on the matter itself. This focus and authenticity, in some mature and stable social relationships, can be a rare and trustworthy quality.

Therefore, rather than forcing oneself to become slick and worldly, it is better to maintain oneself based on an understanding of social complexity. True maturity is "knowing the world but not being worldly," channeling energy into developing personal abilities and pursuing long-term valuable goals. Even if this does not fully conform to mainstream social ways, it can still lead to stable rewards and a better life.
