The Ukrainian army uses British OneWeb satellites to control unmanned boats.

Jin10 data reported on October 19 that Russian security agencies revealed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces used the satellite system of the UK company OneWeb to control unmanned boats in the Black Sea, and a similar unmanned boat has been captured as a trophy. Sources said that Ukraine uses this system as a backup communication channel for the “Starlink” system. He stated, “OneWeb terminals have been integrated into the control system of maritime drones. Now, OneWeb is used as a backup communication channel alongside the main system — the American Starlink.” He explained that unlike Starlink, which uses thousands of low Earth orbit satellites, OneWeb deploys its network in medium Earth orbit. This allows a single satellite to cover a wider area but requires more complex and expensive user terminals.
