Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has compared Ethereum to Linux, describing it as an open-source foundation designed to power the future of Web3—much like Linux became the backbone of modern computing.
Buterin’s vision positions Ethereum as a universal, permissionless infrastructure where anyone can build decentralized applications without relying on intermediaries. Just as Linux enabled global access to software outside the control of big tech companies, Ethereum aims to do the same for finance, governance, and digital identity.
Ethereum as the Operating System of Web3
According to Buterin, Ethereum’s role is not to be a single application, but an open platform that developers can freely build on. Smart contracts and decentralized apps running on Ethereum are designed to scale to billions of users, reinforcing its ambition to become the operating system of Web3.
Layer 2 Growth Brings Both Innovation and Challenges
Ethereum’s ecosystem now includes over 127 Layer 2 networks, which help lower fees and improve scalability. While this explosion of Layer 2 solutions has boosted innovation, it has also raised concerns about fragmentation, interoperability, and shared liquidity.
Despite these concerns, many in the community see this modular structure as a strength. The freedom to experiment across multiple chains reflects Ethereum’s open-source philosophy and its evolution toward a multi-chain future.
The Bigger Vision
The comparison to Linux highlights Ethereum’s broader goal: to become the core infrastructure of a decentralized internet, governed by its community rather than centralized authorities. If successful, Ethereum could serve as the backbone of Web3—enabling open, borderless movement of value and identity without intermediaries.
Bottom line: Ethereum doesn’t aim to be just another blockchain. Vitalik Buterin sees it as the foundational layer of a decentralized digital world, much like Linux became the foundation of modern computing.

Ethereum Foundation Researcher: The execution ticket mechanism converts MEV revenue into protocol burn, returning the validator’s role to pure staking
The Ethereum Foundation’s Barnabé Monnot introduced an “execution tickets” mechanism at the EthCC conference. The goal is to reduce block proposer monopolistic power by using a protocol auction for transaction execution and ordering rights, thereby increasing transparency and fairness. The revenue from execution tickets will be directly burned, ensuring that MEV profits are fairly distributed to all ETH holders, and lowering the participation barrier for home stakers. This mechanism is a core proposal of the Ethereum roadmap’s “Scourge” phase, and it will effectively prevent transaction censorship.

ETH 15-minute drop of 0.78%: A pullback triggered by a short-term long position liquidation and a surge in trading volume converging in tandem
2026-04-01 13:30 to 13:45 (UTC), over a 15-minute period ETH’s return rate is -0.78%, and the price range fluctuates from 2109.18 to 2135.43 USDT, with a swing of 1.23%. Market attention has increased, local volatility has intensified, short-term capital battles are noticeably more pronounced, and spot and derivatives trading volumes on major exchanges have expanded in parallel.
The main driving force behind this unusual move is a localized surge in short-term trading volume, along with concentrated selling and the passive triggering of stop-loss orders, which caused ETH’s price to dip in the short term. At the same time, some long positions were also passively liquidated at key price levels; although they still maintained a certain degree of resilience, the overall market sentiment showed increased caution and risk aversion.

Ethereum privacy framework Kohaku integrates Helios light client and TEE technology
Vitalik Buterin and Nicolas Consigny presented new progress on Kohaku, a privacy framework, at the EthCC conference, emphasizing the capabilities of integrating the network layer, the hardware layer, and light clients. By directly integrating the Helios light client into a wallet SDK, Kohaku enables user self-verification, protects privacy, and introduces an automated privacy routing mechanism, improving privacy and security within the Ethereum ecosystem.

ETH 15-minute decline of 0.62%: Elevated derivatives leverage and concentrated positions trigger a short-term correction
From 2026-04-01 12:45 to 2026-04-01 13:00 (UTC), the ETH spot price quickly fell within the 2127.4 to 2146.81 USDT range, with a 15-minute return of -0.62% and a range (amplitude) of 0.91%. During this time window, market attention increased, volatility noticeably accelerated, reflecting a momentary release of short-term trading pressure.
The main driving force behind this abnormal move is that the leverage level in the derivatives market continued to rise. Open interest (OI) broke through 30.451 billion USD, and in a high-leverage environment, positions were highly concentrated, making the market susceptible to sharp fluctuations.
