Instagram has announced it is rolling out its ongoing trial of NFTs on Instagram to 100 countries in the world including in:
Middle East
Africa
Asia-Pacific, and
Americas
The NFT trials began in May 2022 when the platform said it was introducing the ability for select users to showcase NFT collectibles on their Instagram pages.
The latest announcement means that users in Africa will now be able to connect their Instagram accounts to a crypto wallet and add an NFT collection to the social media service.
Some of the wallets that are supported include:
MetaMask
Rainbow
Trust Wallet
Coinbase Wallet
NFT support will only be available across select chains that includes:
Ethereum
Polygon, and
Flow
with Instagram saying ‘there no fees associated with posting or sharing a digital collectible.’
Meta, Instagram’s parent company, has said that the move is based on user feedback indicating that NFTs are being used by creators to ‘take control of their work, their relationship with their fans, and how they can monetize.’
How NFTs Will Work on Instagram
Users connect their accounts to a wallet of their choice, upon which they can select any NFT they own that they would want to share on social media.
“Once a creator or collector posts a digital collectible, it will have a shimmer effect and can display public information, such as a description of the NFT.
Posts will also be visible on their profile.”
– Instagram
On Instagram, both a creator and collector can be tagged onto the NFT.
Instagram had said that its push into NFTs was aimed at improving accesibility, lowering barriers to entry, and to increase inclusivity in the NFT space.
