DeSci + Memes are still hot, what other good perspectives are there? Do these meme coins really contribute to Science? Some people can't stand it and shout, 'Have you donated a penny to sci-hub while hyping desci all day?'

What is Sci-hub?

According to Wikipedia, Sci-Hub is a shadow library that uses various methods to bypass the paywalls of publishers. In 2011, Kazakh graduate student Alexandra Elbakyan decided to establish Sci-Hub because the cost of accessing research papers behind paywalls was too high. Its users are spread all over the world. In February 2021, Sci-Hub's homepage showed that it stored over 85 million papers.

Sci-Hub and Elbakyan have been accused of copyright infringement in the United States twice, both times losing the cases due to the absence of the defendants. Sci-Hub has received praise from the scientific, academic, and publishing communities, believing that it can effectively disseminate knowledge in the scientific community and provide research results funded by the government to the public for free. Publishers criticize it for copyright infringement, leading to a reduction in their own income and posing a threat to the cybersecurity of universities (although publishers may be exaggerating the threat. Sci-Hub also prompts publishers to set up stricter paywalls.)

When Elbakyan defends Sci-Hub, she will in turn question whether the business practices of publishers comply with ethical standards and Article 27 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. She insists that operating Sci-Hub is a moral imperative and the law should not prevent her. She once said, "If all Americans obeyed evil laws, they would still be ruled by the Queen and slavery would continue to exist today".

"Have you ever donated to sci-hub?" 0xAA, former chairman of the Peking University Blockchain Association, thought the question made sense, so he donated 0.1 Ethercoin.

But if it only stops at donations, there will be no exciting stories afterwards - 0xAA bought 22% of the supply of the meme coin named after scihub.

The meme coin called scihub rose to a Market Cap of $70 million overnight. 22% of the token's value held by 0xAA is worth thousands of dollars. Will he donate 20% of the token as promised? Will donating 20% of the supply rationalize this almost crazy speculation?

At the beginning, the founder of Sci-hub, Elbakyan, did not agree with the project.

But later she added the option to accept $SOL Wallet donations on the Sci-hub website.

Later, 0xAA indicated that Consensus had been reached in Elbaf and pledged to donate 20% of the Token.

Controversy

The incident has sparked a huge controversy in the Chinese community, mainly divided into two points:

Accusation of rat trading

There are accusations of rat trading against 0xAA, with only 22% of the tokens held in its public Wallet, the actual controlled tokens far exceed this proportion.

Why not donate directly?

Is it about helping scientific research or a money game? Some people think that direct donations should be made instead of using speculative memes.

0xAA also said bluntly, 'I want to make money, the kind that everyone can make together.' I hope everyone can win together, both profit from the meme coin and support Sci-hub's operation.

Supporter's perspective

Opponents have their own views, and the community also has many people supporting the behavior of 0xAA, analogizing the act of using memes to raise funds and donating some of the chips, and the lottery model.
