ME News report, April 3 (UTC+8) — Ambassador Fu Cong, China’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, said at the UN Security Council open debate on cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council that the origin of the conflict in the Middle East lies in the United States and Israel launching military attacks on Iran. The fundamental way to prevent the situation from worsening is for the US and Israel to stop their military actions. China does not agree with Iran’s attacks on GCC countries, condemns all indiscriminate attacks on innocent civilians and non-military targets, and believes that the security of sea lanes should not be disrupted. Ambassador Fu Cong emphasized that the Security Council should uphold an objective, just, and fair position. Under current circumstances, authorizing member states to use force is tantamount to legitimizing illegal abuse of force, which will inevitably lead to further escalation of the situation and cause serious consequences. The Security Council must act prudently and play a positive role in helping cool tensions and restore dialogue and negotiations. (Source: ODAILY)
