ME News report: On April 12 (UTC+8), the talks held in Islamabad were the first direct meeting between the U.S. and Iran in more than a decade, and the highest-level consultations between the two countries since the 1979 Iranian Islamic Revolution. The Iranian delegation arrived in Islamabad in the early hours of the 11th, with everyone dressed in black to mourn the Supreme Leader Khamenei and other war victims. The Iranian government said the delegation also brought some students’ shoes and backpacks—items belonging to students who were tragically killed when U.S. forces bombed a school next to a military facility. Another Pakistani source said, when speaking about the first round of talks, “Both sides’ emotions were volatile; during the talks, the atmosphere was sometimes tense and sometimes eased.” (Source: ODAILY)
