Ministry of National Defense responds to Australia's hype over alleged unsafe Chinese military aircraft approaching its carrier-based aircraft
The Ministry of National Defense spokesperson Jiang Bin answered questions from reporters regarding Australia’s fabrication of so-called “unsafe” Chinese military aircraft approaching its carrier-based aircraft.
Reporter: The Australian Department of Defense says that on March 4, during the implementation of a United Nations Security Council resolution in international waters in the Yellow Sea, a Chinese military aircraft approached an Australian ship-based helicopter in an unsafe manner. What is your comment?
Jiang Bin: The relevant remarks from Australia are purely a distortion of facts and a reversal of black and white. We are strongly dissatisfied with this and firmly oppose it. Recently, Australia’s “Turbal” frigate has, under the pretext of so-called “implementing United Nations Security Council resolutions,” repeatedly deployed carrier-based helicopters in the Yellow Sea and East China Sea to conduct close-in reconnaissance of China and to continuously provoke, endangering China’s national security. In response to Australia’s infringements and provocations, the Chinese military promptly took measures to respond firmly and effectively. The relevant operations are legitimate, reasonable, and professionally conducted, fully in line with international law and international practice.
It needs to be emphasized that United Nations Security Council resolutions have never authorized any country to deploy military forces in the maritime and air areas under the jurisdiction of other countries, on the pretext of monitoring activities that violate the resolutions, or to conduct surveillance activities. China will in no way tolerate any such actions in the name of “implementing resolutions” that endanger China’s national sovereignty and security, and will resolutely counter them. We urge Australia to genuinely respect China’s sovereignty and security concerns, immediately stop spreading false information, strictly constrain the deployment and actions of naval and air forces, and not carry out any reckless provocations, and not do anything that undermines regional peace and stability.
