Just found out Elon Musk actually had to correct people about his South African background lol. Everyone assumes he's Afrikaner but he's actually British/English descent. Apparently his family has more in common with the English settlers from the 1800s rather than the Dutch/German ones. Wild part? He connected it to J.R.R. Tolkien who was also born in South Africa. Musk's apparently a huge Tolkien fan and even mentioned it played a role in his whole thing with Grimes. So this South African tech guy is basically English heritage through and through. Guess people just see 'born in South Africa' and make assumptions without knowing the actual cultural background. Makes sense though - South African heritage is way more complex than most people realize. You ever realize how much context gets lost when people just know the surface level stuff about someone?
