Israeli forces attack Beirut and southern Lebanon; this round of conflict has resulted in 687 Lebanese deaths.

Israeli military authorities said on the 12th that they launched a new round of attacks on Hezbollah-related targets located in Beirut, the Lebanese capital, and in southern Lebanon. The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health said the same day that since early March, 687 people on the Lebanese side have been killed in Israeli attacks.

Earlier, the Israeli military issued warnings urging residents in parts of Beirut to evacuate before airstrikes. It is reported that the relevant areas have branches of a financial institution called the “Charitable Loan Alliance.” The Israeli military claims that the institution is affiliated with Lebanese Hezbollah.

Israeli Chief of the General Staff Zamil said that on the day, commanders of Iranian militia groups “fighting side by side” with Hezbollah, as well as their deputy and others, were killed in the Israeli military’s attack on Lebanon the previous day. He also said that actions against Lebanese Hezbollah “will not end soon,” and that the Israeli military will continue to increase its deployment of military forces.

The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health said the same day that since March 2, Israeli attacks on Lebanon have caused 687 deaths and 1,774 injuries.

On the same day, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Salame said the government is working to promote a cessation of hostilities and ensure that displaced people can safely return to their homes.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a large-scale military operation against Iran, and Iran launched retaliatory attacks against targets including Israel and U.S. military bases in the Middle East. As Iran’s main regional ally, Lebanese Hezbollah began firing rockets into northern Israel on the evening of the 2nd. Israel, in turn, launched intense airstrikes on southern Lebanon, the east, and the capital Beirut, and carried out ground operations in southern Lebanon. (Xinhua)
