ME News update: On April 1 (UTC+8), the head of the largest energy company in the United Arab Emirates said Iran’s actions to blockade the Strait of Hormuz and cut off Middle East energy supplies amount to “global economic extortion.” In a post on LinkedIn, Sultan Al Jaber, CEO of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), said the effective closure of this critical waterway is “an intolerable threat to the world.” He said: “The world must take action------together------to ensure the free flow of energy and maintain economic stability.” Al Jaber is also a minister in the UAE government, and has been one of the most outspoken business leaders in the country in criticizing Iran and calling for the strait to be reopened. Last month, he said Iran is “weaponizing energy flows,” and described the behavior as “economic terrorism.” (Jin Ten) (Source: ODAILY)
