Ensure supply: Some Indian refineries postpone shutdowns for maintenance

People’s Finance News, April 7—On April 6, an official from India’s Ministry of Petroleum said that some of the country’s refineries have postponed planned shutdowns and maintenance of production equipment in order to ensure domestic fuel demand. Sujata Sharma, an official of India’s Ministry of Petroleum, said that some oil companies, including Indian Oil Corporation and Bharat Petroleum Corporation, had originally planned routine inspections and maintenance of certain refinery equipment. However, given that the private company Nayara Energy has decided to close its Vadinar refinery—its 400k barrels-per-day processing capacity—starting on the 9th for maintenance, this is expected to tighten the supply of liquefied petroleum gas within India. In addition, a shortage of oil product supplies caused by fighting in the Middle East has also led some Indian oil companies to decide to postpone planned shutdown maintenance in order to secure supply. It is understood that Nayara Energy had originally planned to carry out a month-long shutdown and maintenance at the Vadinar refinery last year, but because EU sanctions made it difficult for the company to obtain the key materials needed for the maintenance, it had to postpone the maintenance plan. Industry sources said this shutdown and maintenance is expected to last 35 to 40 days. (CCTV News)
