Iran expert: The U.S. and Israel have a huge misjudgment of Iran; the Trump administration is in trouble
Iranian foreign policy expert Abbas Aslani said in an interview with a Xinhua News Agency reporter in Tehran on the 6th that the U.S. government’s considerations and assessments regarding military action against Iran involved “major errors,” that none of its strategic objectives had been achieved, and that it has fallen into a situation of “the more it struggles, the more difficult it becomes.” Aslani said that after weeks of conflict, Tehran had shown no signs of weakness or surrender. Meanwhile, the United States and Israel are carrying out attacks on Iran’s energy, scientific, medical, and industrial infrastructure, indicating that they have failed to achieve their aims militarily and strategically, and that they are attempting to continue the war in a “very dangerous way for the entire region” by putting pressure on the Iranian government through harming Iranian civilians, and even by striking nuclear facilities. Aslani said that the purpose of the U.S.-Israeli invasion is to change Iran’s regime and political system, and to destroy Iran’s military capabilities and infrastructure. But Iran can still, at present, shoot down U.S. aircraft and respond to attacks, “which means the U.S.-Israeli side has failed to achieve its strategic goals.” Aslani believed that the Trump administration, to some extent, is “angry and exhausted” with the status quo. Because they “can’t find a way out of the predicament or a retreat,” they are trying to further escalate the situation. But the longer the conflict continues, the more complex the situation becomes for the United States, and the more severe the consequences are; the Trump administration will find that its situation is “harder than ever.” (Xinhua)
