Friday thunderstorms, strong winds, and blowing sand. During the holiday, weekday morning and evening rush hours will experience heavy traffic pressure. It is recommended to travel at off-peak times and pay attention to traffic safety.
Thunderstorms, Strong Winds, and Dust
According to forecasts from the meteorological authorities, due to the impact of cold air, there will be scattered thunderstorms from the latter half of the day two days from now until around midday on the third day. During the thunderstorms, there may be short-lived strong winds or small hail. From midday on the third day to the first half of the night, there will be strong winds, accompanied by dust. When going out, please bring rain gear, strengthen health protection, and pay attention to wind protection, dust prevention, and traffic safety.
At 16:35 on April 2, the Beijing Municipal Meteorological Observatory issued a Yellow Warning Signal for Strong Winds: Due to the impact of cold air, from midday on April 3 to the first half of the night, most areas of our city will experience northerly winds at levels 4 or 5, with gusts around level 8; specifically, the period from midday to the evening of the third day will be the time of strongest winds. In the plains, gusts may reach levels 8 and 9, and in mountainous areas, local gusts may exceed level 11, accompanied by dust. Please take precautions.
Heavy Traffic During Morning and Evening Rush Hours
April 3 (Friday) is the last working day before the Qingming holiday, and vehicles are subject to license plate number restrictions for tail numbers 1 and 6.
Morning rush-hour commuting and school commuting are concentrated. Coupled with adverse factors such as wet and slippery roads caused by the thunderstorm weather, traffic pressure will be higher. For some segments of the city’s main ring roads, and for connecting roads into the city such as Lianshi East Road, Fushi Road, and North Xizhimen Street, local sections will see concentrated traffic flows toward the urban area. On highways into Beijing such as Jingzang, Jingcheng, Jingkai, and Jinggang’ao, some sections will also experience concentrated vehicle flows. Traffic pressure in areas such as Deshengmen, the Aerospace Bridge, and Jinsong will be relatively higher.
Evening rush-hour commuting and early holiday travel, combined with adverse factors from windy and dusty weather, will make traffic pressure more prominent. It is expected that the evening rush hour will begin earlier at around 15:00. From 17:00 to 19:00, the pressure on the road network will be at its highest. After 20:00, it will ease gradually. For some segments of the city’s main ring roads, and for connecting roads out of the city toward the suburbs such as Wanquanhe Road, Lianshi East Road, Tonghuihe North Road, and Fengti South Road, local sections will see concentrated vehicle flows. On highways such as Jingzang Expressway from Madian Bridge to Shangqing Bridge, Jingcheng Expressway from Shengtai Temple Bridge to Laiguangying Bridge, Jingkai Expressway from Yuquanying Bridge to Xinfadi, Jinggang’ao Expressway from Yuegezhang Bridge to Dawayao, Jingtong Expressway from Siqiti to Yuantong Bridge, Capital Airport Expressway from Dongzhimen North Bridge to Wuyuan Bridge, as well as on sections of the Sixth Ring Road such as Litian Bridge to Renhe Bridge and Junzhuang to Wolonggang Bridge, vehicle flows will be concentrated.
From the afternoon into the evening, passenger flows leaving Beijing will increase significantly at major intercity hub stations and terminals such as Capital Airport, Daxing Airport, Beijing West Railway Station, Beijing South Railway Station, and Beijing Chaoyang Railway Station, and traffic pressure on surrounding road networks will be concentrated for short periods.
In the evening, an arena concert will be held at the National Stadium, and sports events will be held at the Wukesong Sports Center. During the entry and exit periods for the event, roads around the venues will see heavy vehicle traffic in the short term. According to @Beijing Subway, to better support transportation services and保障 for the National Stadium event, the metro company has adopted multiple measures including adding temporary suburban trains, shortening operating intervals, strengthening on-site guidance, and appropriately adjusting operating organization methods, to ensure passengers can travel safely and smoothly.
For major business districts such as He Shenghui, Sanlitun, Blue Harbor, Beijing Chaoyang Joy City, and Xihongmen Hui Ju, passenger volumes and vehicle volumes are high. Heavy vehicle queues for short periods may appear at nearby roads and parking-lot entrances and exits.
