Trump: Seriously considering withdrawing from NATO, NATO is a "paper tiger"
ME News message, on April 1 (UTC+8), according to the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph, Trump said that after NATO did not join his war against Iran, he is seriously considering having the United States withdraw from NATO. Trump called NATO a “paper tiger” and said that the U.S. leaving the alliance is already “no longer a matter to consider.” This is the strongest signal to date, showing that after allies refused to respond to Trump’s demand to dispatch warships to restart the Strait of Hormuz, the White House no longer regards Europe as a reliable defense partner. When asked whether he would reconsider the U.S. membership in the alliance after the conflict ended, Trump replied: “I would say that it’s no longer something to consider. I was never persuaded by NATO. I’ve always known they were paper tigers, and by the way, Putin knows it too.” Trump added: “We’ve always been automatically involved, including Ukraine. Ukraine is not our problem. This is a test. We supported them there, but they didn’t support us.” (Source: ChainCatcher)
