I noticed that the crypto community constantly jokes about Эфириум as ultrasound money. At first, it seemed strange, but then I figured out what the point of this meme is.

It all started after The Merge, when Ethereum switched to Proof of Stake. At that time, a fee burning system was introduced via EIP-1559. That’s what created this amusing situation: if demand for the blockchain is high, then fees rise, and more ETH is burned. So, when network activity increases, the currency becomes deflationary. That’s where the ultrasound money meme came from.

Why specifically ultrasound? Because it sounds funnier than just a deflationary currency. Plus, there’s a hint at Batman and his sonar. The crypto community loves jokes like these. But behind the meme is a real mechanism: ultrasound money is a concept where a currency can become rarer when demand is high.

An important point: this doesn’t guarantee that ETH will always be deflationary. It depends on the amount of coins burned versus the newly issued ones. But the idea of ultrasound money reflects Ethereum’s real potential as a deflationary asset.

I think this meme shows how the crypto community finds ways to explain complex mechanics through jokes and metaphors. And honestly, ultrasound money sounds far more appealing to newcomers than technical explanations about fee burning. That’s why the meme took off, and now everyone uses it.
