Recently, I needed to register some overseas accounts for testing. Finding it too troublesome to buy new SIM cards, I started researching virtual number platforms for receiving verification codes. I’ve encountered many pitfalls before—sometimes the verification code wouldn’t arrive for half a day, or it would just become invalid. Eventually, I found a few more reliable options.

The principle of these verification code receiving platforms is quite simple: they provide virtual phone numbers for you to receive SMS verification codes. No need to worry about privacy leaks, and you don’t have to buy actual SIM cards—pay-per-use is fine. I personally tested five platforms; SMS-Activate and 5SIM performed the most stably, usually receiving messages within 10 seconds, and they cover many countries. If you mainly use domestic apps, Super Cloud SMS and Little Bird Receive Code respond faster, around 5-20 seconds. Getsmscode is cheap and suitable for occasional use.

When using these verification code platforms, keep a few points in mind. Shared number ranges are more likely to be flagged or restricted, so it’s recommended to prepare several numbers just in case. Some platforms support “one-click number switching,” which is really handy. Also, don’t rely on virtual numbers as your long-term primary number—they’re not secure enough; just treat them as temporary emergency solutions. If you’re doing API testing, choosing a platform that supports API integration is enough. If you want stable registration on a specific website, it’s best to top up multiple numbers at once so you can switch quickly if one becomes invalid.

Honestly, these verification code receiving platforms are quite convenient for developers or anyone needing test accounts. Compared to complicated verification processes, virtual number solutions are much simpler.
