Houthi rebels in Yemen list three conditions for participating in the conflict
Ask AI · How does the alliance between the Houthis and Iran affect their military decision-making?
KUWAIT CITY, March 27 (Xinhua) — News from Sana’a: On March 27, the Yemenite Houthi movement said that, against the backdrop of the ongoing escalation of the situation in the Middle East, it has set three conditions for possible military intervention, and warned that once any of those circumstances occurs, it will directly take military action.
In a statement released late at night the same day via the Masirah TV station controlled by the group, a spokesperson for the Houthis, Yahya Sareya, said that if the Red Sea is used to launch military actions against Iran or other Islamic countries, if new regional or international alliances join in supporting the United States and Israel in their actions against Iran and the “Arc of Resistance” in the region, and if the military escalation targeting Iran and the “Arc of Resistance” continues to expand, the Houthis may directly take part in the fighting.
Sareya also called on the United States and Israel to immediately stop what he described as aggressive actions against Iran and countries related to the “Arc of Resistance.” He said that these military actions are “unjust and unreasonable,” and not only endanger regional and global security and stability, but also have a negative impact on the world economy.
He also called for an end to the blockade on Yemen, and warned that any further moves to intensify the blockade on Yemen will be met with retaliation, adding that the Houthis “are prepared to respond to any developments.” Sareya also urged that commitments be carried out, including humanitarian assistance under the Gaza Strip ceasefire agreement.
On March 26, Houthi leader Abdul Malik Houthi reiterated the group’s position opposing U.S.-Israeli aggression against Iran, saying that the group will not remain neutral in the current situation, and that if the development of hostilities requires it, it will take “confident and proactive action.”
