On March 25, a real-name whistleblower letter circulated in the financial community, pointing directly at the director of the Cinda Securities Research Institute, Zuo Qianming. Staff from Cinda Securities’ securities department confirmed that day that the company had become aware of the relevant public sentiment, “is verifying the situation,” but as of the time of publication, there was still no handling outcome, and they had not received any notice regarding Zuo Qianming being suspended.

The whistleblower identified herself as Tang Chanyu. She claimed she joined the Cinda Securities Research Institute in 2023 and is currently a researcher. In the letter, she detailed what happened on the evening of March 24: Zuo Qianming, citing that he was traveling to attend a meeting, asked her to accompany him to Shanghai. After a dinner gathering that night ended, on the way back to their lodging hotel in the car, he attacked her. First, he touched her hand, saying, “You look nervous—relax,” and then he reached toward her intimate parts. Tang Chanyu pushed him away twice; he repeated, twice, “Relax,” and then reached his hand again.

After arriving at the hotel, in front of many people, Zuo Qianming pulled her and demanded that she “go back to my room.” When she refused, he forcibly grabbed her waist and shoved her into the back seat of a taxi parked outside the hotel. Tang Chanyu struggled desperately in the car and called for help loudly. Zuo Qianming tried to calm her by saying, “It’ll be fine after a shot,” and that line made her even more terrified.

The turning point came at the entrance of a Holiday Inn—an on-duty security guard intervened in time, controlling Zuo Qianming from behind. Tang Chanyu took the opportunity to escape, ran into a nearby crowded hot pot restaurant, and asked the staff to take her to a safe place. After that, she reported it to the police and learned from the police that Zuo Qianming had been controlled with the help of the security guard.

At the end of the whistleblower letter, Tang Chanyu wrote that she had completed a detailed statement at the public security bureau. The hotel security guards and hot pot restaurant staff could serve as third-party witnesses. The monitoring in the relevant public areas was also being handled. “I am responsible for every single word of the above statements, and I do not accept any form of private settlement internally.”

Circulating in parallel with the whistleblower letter was a document titled “Receipt of Case (Incident) Reporting,” issued by the Weifang Xincun Police Station of the Pudong Public Security Bureau of Shanghai, with an “Item (Incident) Acceptance” number showing it is for 2026. The receipt records: at 1:07:41 a.m. on March 25, 2026, the reporter, Tang Chanyu, reported that while riding to the Holiday Inn at 899 Dongfang Road, Pudong New Area, she was sexually harassed by Zuo Qianming. After arriving at the hotel, the other person continued yanking at her, trying to take her back to the room. She struggled and called for help in the taxi after being shoved into it in the hotel entrance parking lot. She then left with the assistance of the Holiday Inn security guards and reported to the police; after the police arrived, they took Zuo Qianming away for investigation. The names of the persons, locations, and the reasons recorded in the receipt closely match the whistleblower letter.

In her letter, Tang Chanyu also mentioned that before the incident, she had always believed that Zuo Qianming was “a respected, upright good leader who cares about subordinates,” which is also why this matter hit her so hard. She admitted she was a young employee who joined Cinda Securities immediately after graduating in 2023. By choosing to speak out publicly, she said, it was to protect her rights and to prevent the same thing from happening to someone else.

A Xinhuanghe reporter noted that Zuo Qianming and Tang Chanyu do have professional overlap. Records from relevant research-report platforms show that in June 2025, the two jointly signed and published an industry research report on “Shaanxi Natural Gas.”

At noon on the 25th, the Xinhuanghe reporter called multiple times the举报电话 of Cinda Securities’ Discipline Inspection Commission office and the office landline left by Zuo Qianming in prior publicly released research reports, but no one answered.

The reporter then called Cinda Securities’ securities department as an investor. Staff confirmed that the company had become aware of the relevant public sentiment: “Regarding this matter, we have just received a notification—our company is paying attention.” When asked whether there was already a handling result, the other party said, “We are currently verifying whether this is the situation; there is still no handling result at the moment.” When the reporter followed up asking whether Zuo Qianming could still perform his duties normally and whether he had been suspended, the staff responded: “He was still traveling for business yesterday. We have just received the notification—right now on our side, there is still no (notification) about his suspension, or any details about what circumstances [led to it].”

Public information shows that Zuo Qianming currently serves as the head (director) of the R&D Center of Cinda Securities and its chief analyst for the energy industry, and he is well known in the industry. Zuo Qianming holds a PhD from China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing). He previously held relevant positions with the China Coal Industry Association. He joined Cinda Securities in 2016 and was formally promoted to director of the Cinda Securities Research Institute in July 2025. In the industry, he has been known for the label of “a sell-side analyst who has gone down to the mines a hundred times.” He once went viral for live-streaming from underground coal mines while wearing miners’ clothing. He has also repeatedly emphasized in interviews with the media that research and investment work should adhere to “long-termism” and the “craftsman’s spirit.” Cinda Securities (601059.SH) is a domestic listed brokerage firm.

As of the time of publication, neither the police nor Cinda Securities’ official accounts have released any formal announcement.
