Trump's Profanity Post Draws Mockery from Iranian Embassies
On April 6, CNN reported that U.S. President Trump threatened Iran on social media with profanity regarding the Strait of Hormuz, prompting mockery from Iranian embassies in multiple countries. The Iranian embassy in India stated, “Cursing and insults are the behavior of a child who cannot lose. Control yourself, old man!” The Iranian embassy in Zimbabwe issued a “Presidential Etiquette” guide, which included recommendations such as “using respectful and restrained language in public statements” and “maintaining decorum that reflects the seriousness of the office.” The Iranian embassy in the UK quoted American writer Mark Twain, saying, “It’s better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.” The Iranian embassy in South Africa urged the American public, stating, “To be honest, smart Americans should at least do something to uphold their own dignity.”
