From 18,000 coins to 360 rolls, this bank achieved it.

“I’ve got more than 10,000 coins here—can you help me exchange them?”

One morning recently, shortly after the roll-up door was raised at the Yaojiang Agricultural Bank branch in Nantong, Jiangsu, a visibly anxious customer pushed a cart hurriedly into the lobby. On the cart were three neatly stacked paper boxes. The lobby manager immediately stepped forward. After learning the details, it turned out the customer ran a small business. In his day-to-day work, he had accumulated a large number of coins, which he had stored haphazardly at home. They took up space, and after a long time they would also rust and corrode. With no other option, he had come to the bank for help.

“Yes! Please don’t worry. This is our job duty—we’ll definitely count them for you properly!”

Considering that the large number of coins would affect everyday counter business, the branch immediately opened a green channel, assigning two employees to work in coordinated roles to carry out the counting.

Facing piles of coins stacked like a mountain, with mixed and scattered placement, the staff first sorted the coins by different denominations. Then, they counted them one by one in an orderly manner. They rolled them up neatly, 50 coins per roll. The two employees cooperated smoothly and methodically. They also picked out coins that were unsuitable for circulation—those that were worn or deformed, hard to clean due to stains, or had blurred images and text—and handled the exchange of those as well.

Throughout the process, the staff did not take a break. Their fingertips were already reddened from rubbing against the coins, and their eyes had become sore and dry from long periods of focused counting. After more than three continuous hours of hard work, they finally completed the counting: a total of 12,000 1-yuan coins and 6,000 5-jiao coins—360 rolls in all. The coins unsuitable for circulation were also exchanged on the spot for the customer.

After receiving the neatly organized exchanged cash, the customer kept thanking them: “With so many coins—so messy and heavy, and there are even damaged ones—you don’t嫌麻烦, you don’t cut corners, and you’re professional and thoughtful. You truly solved a big problem for me. This is exactly the kind of bank people can trust!”

In just a few short lines, the staff present felt that all the hard work and focused effort this morning was worth it.
