A reporter interviewed Hao Hongwei, general manager of Beijing Pinchi Medical Devices Co., Ltd. and deputy director of the National Engineering Research Center for Neuromodulation. He said that brain-computer interface therapy is no longer a “luxury item with a sky-high price.” The cost of implant surgery depends on the product type and the complexity of the procedure, ranging from tens of thousands of yuan to about two or three million yuan. Non-invasive rehabilitation training is charged per course; a single treatment costs several hundred yuan, and one course costs about several thousand yuan. “At present, our implantable control brain-computer interface device is used for treating diseases such as Parkinson’s and epilepsy. When used for these conditions, in most provinces across the country it has already been included in medical insurance—for example, the reimbursement rate for employee medical insurance in Beijing and Shanghai can reach 80%.” Hao Hongwei said.
