Commercial fiber optic data hits a new record high; the sector remains active, Huayuan Communications hits two consecutive limit-ups.
(Source: 财闻)
April 3, shares related to fiber optics opened higher and moved up in early trading. As of the time of this release, member stocks included Huiyuan Communication (000586.SZ) hitting two consecutive daily limit-up boards, and Tengjing Technology (688195.SH), Juguang Technology (688167.SH), Robotech (300757.SZ), Xinde New Materials (301349.SZ), Tianfu Communications (300394.SZ), Yuanjie Technology (688498.SH), among others, followed suit.
On the news side, according to reports, scientists from University College London in the UK have set a new record for the fastest commercial fiber-optic data transmission speed available today—450 terabits per second (Tb/s). This speed is equal to ten times that of existing commercial networks. Experts from the University of Bath in the UK commented that fiber research mainly has two directions: first, “squeezing out” more bandwidth from already deployed high-cost fiber-optic cables; second, developing new types of fiber-optic cables to eliminate technical bottlenecks. The clever part of this work lies in using existing underground resources. Compared with laying new fiber-optic cables, the approach demonstrated in this experiment is more direct and more pragmatic.
In addition, a research report from CICC (China International Capital Corporation) Securities states that in February this year, China exported 3,779.9 tons of fiber optics, with a value of 790 million yuan, up 63.6% and 126.8% year over year, respectively. If converted into kilometer figures, in February China’s fiber-optic exports were approximately 25.2 million fiber-kilometers, accounting for about 65% of China’s monthly effective fiber-optic production.
CICC believes that demand for 800G optical modules in 2026 is expected to maintain strong growth momentum, and the shipment scale of 1.6T is also expected to continue growing. Research and development for 3.2T optical modules has likewise officially begun to be planned and laid out. With the rapid upgrade and iteration of GPUs and ASICs, computing performance continues to improve, and at the same time, demand for data transmission has increased significantly.
Open-source Securities believes that “AIDC construction, DCI interconnection, and drone demand” form a triple resonance in fiber-optic demand. From the supply side, fiber preforms have characteristics such as a long expansion cycle and high difficulty in scaling up, which may lead to a sustained situation of supply not meeting demand, and fiber-optic prices may continue to rise.
