Montenegro: Approved environmental impact assessment reports for two solar power plants with a total installed capacity of 190MW
(Source: Central and Eastern Europe Energy Observer)
The Environmental Protection Agency of Montenegro has recently approved the environmental impact assessment (EIA) reports for two solar power plants in the city of Nikšić—Vraćenovići (100MW) and Tupan (90MW), with a total installed capacity of 190MW.
Vraćenovići Solar Power Plant | 100MW
Developer: Agenos Energy (registered in the capital Podgorica)
Key information:
Planned installed capacity: 100MW, grid connection capacity: 87.5MW
Located in the southern hilly area of Nikšić, about 38 kilometers from the city center
In the summer of 2024, it signed a grid connection agreement with the transmission system operator CGES
Planned commissioning time: 2028
Expected operating life: 25 to 30 years
Technical solution: The plant will connect nearby to the 110 kV Nikšić–Bileća transmission line that passes through the project land, and both technical feasibility and economic viability are ensured.
Tupan Solar Power Plant | 90MW
Developer: S2P Electric GMBH Rümlang (registered in Switzerland, affiliated with SS&A Power Group)
Key information:
Planned installed capacity: 90MW
The site is also in the city of Nikšić
The grid connection agreement was signed in March 2026
Background: SS&A Power Group has signed a memorandum of understanding for thermal energy storage with Montenegro’s state-owned power company Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG), and has completed a feasibility study for building a gas power plant in Montenegro, showing its deep layout in the country’s energy market.
Regulatory requirements
According to the approval decision, the developers of both projects must strictly carry out all subsequent construction-related activities in accordance with the environmental protection measures specified in the environmental impact assessment reports.
