Did you know? An interesting story about Elon Musk’s brother—Kimbal. The guy clearly lives in the shadow of his famous brother, but he still has his own story. Recently, he posted on X criticizing Trump for the tariffs he introduced, calling them a structural tax on the American consumer. It’s funny that Elon Musk’s brother is criticizing the president whom his more well-known brother supports.
Kimbal is 52 years old, and although he isn’t as publicly known as Elon, he has a serious fortune—around $700 million, mostly thanks to Tesla shares. But what’s interesting is that both of them were born in Pretoria, and they have similar facial features—a square jaw, a straight nose, and green eyes. Plus, they have citizenship in South Africa, Canada, and the United States. But if Elon is in a shirt and black jeans, Elon Musk’s brother always wears a cowboy hat. That’s his signature style.
There’s also a younger sister in the family, Tosca—she’s 50. Their childhood wasn’t easy—all three of them experienced violence from a parent, which led to their mother Maya’s divorce in 1979. After that, the family moved to Canada, and then to the United States. Interestingly, the two brothers together founded Zip2—a startup providing business software for the internet. They sold it to Compaq in 1999 for $307 million. That’s how Elon Musk’s brother also started his path in technology, although later he took a completely different route, getting into philanthropy and ecology.
