(MENAFN) The United States reportedly proposed a 48-hour ceasefire with Iran on April 2, conveying the offer through a friendly third nation, according to Iranian media reports.

“The US, on April 2, proposed a 48-hour ceasefire through one of the friendly countries,” an informed source told the news outlet.

The source explained that the initiative followed “escalating tensions and challenges faced by US forces in the region.”

Rather than responding formally in writing, Iran reportedly reacted “on the ground” by maintaining heavy attacks, the source added.

The same source indicated that “US diplomatic efforts to halt the fighting have intensified, particularly after a reported strike on a US military depot on Bubiyan Island in Kuwait.”

The current hostilities began after the US and Israel launched an air campaign on Iran on February 28, which has resulted in over 1,340 deaths, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to reports.

In retaliation, Iran has conducted missile and drone strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations that host US military installations. These attacks have caused casualties, damaged infrastructure, and disrupted both global markets and aviation.
