According to Montsame, Mongolia’s State Great Hural (Parliament) held a plenary session on the evening of the 27th and voted to approve the resignation of Prime Minister Gombodzav Zandsandshatyr. Of the 126 members of the State Great Hural, 73 lawmakers attended the session. Of those, 74% of the lawmakers voted in favor of Zandsandshatyr stepping down as prime minister.

At the meeting, Zandsandshatyr said he was not clinging to the post: “Because I put the national interest first, I choose to resign as prime minister.”

Under Mongolia’s law, before a new prime minister is appointed, Zandsandshatyr will carry out the duties of acting prime minister; the State Great Hural should appoint a new prime minister within 30 days.

Zandsandshatyr is Mongolia’s 34th prime minister. In June 2025, after the Mongolian People’s Party nominated him as the new prime minister, he received a formal appointment by the State Great Hural. In October of the same year, the State Great Hural adopted a resolution to remove Zandsandshatyr from office, which was later fully vetoed by President Khurelsukh. (Xinhua)
