On April 6, OpenAI released a series of policy recommendations aimed at addressing the transformative era driven by artificial intelligence. These include suggestions for establishing a public wealth fund, creating responsive social security programs, and accelerating power infrastructure development. In an article titled “Industrial Policy in the Age of Intelligence: A Human-Centered Approach,” published on Monday, OpenAI proposed a range of policy recommendations related to the ‘superintelligence’ of artificial intelligence, focusing on societal changes driven by AI. The article advocates for the establishment of a public wealth fund to distribute cash to citizens, allowing them to have a stake in the AI-driven economic growth. It also suggests exploring ways for the public to share in the efficiency gains brought by AI, including incentives for employers to trial a four-day workweek without reducing employee output. Furthermore, it recommends actively measuring the impact of AI on wages and unemployment, and providing additional social support to workers when ‘these indicators exceed predetermined thresholds.’ The company stated that the goal of these recommendations is to serve as a ‘starting point’ for broader discussions to ‘ensure that artificial intelligence benefits everyone.’
