AS and Iran Reportedly Discuss a 45-Day Ceasefire

The United States and Iran, along with regional mediators, are currently discussing the possibility of a 45-day ceasefire amid a conflict that continues to intensify.
According to Axios, the talks involve a number of mediators from the region such as Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey, with the aim of preventing a wider escalation of the conflict.
Negotiations focus on early, step-by-step measures to build trust, including the potential reopening of the Strait of Hormuz as well as limiting certain activities that both sides consider sensitive.
This effort is viewed as a last opportunity to avoid a major attack on Iran’s civilian infrastructure, which could potentially trigger retaliation against energy and water facilities in Gulf countries.
Even so, the likelihood of reaching an agreement in the near term is still considered limited. Negotiations are taking place under heavy pressure, with a deadline set by President Donald Trump to achieve results in a short time.
Previously, several short-term ceasefire proposals were also reported to have failed to reach an agreement, indicating the complexity of negotiations between the two countries.
If achieved, this 45-day ceasefire could potentially become an initial step toward a more permanent resolution of the conflict. However, without an agreement, the risk of escalation of the conflict and its impact on global energy markets are expected to increase.
