東涌食肆失竊 丨警拘兩無業漢 起回失車及後備車匙
A restaurant in Tung Chung was allegedly targeted by a burglary last month. Police arrested two men involved in the case and recovered two stolen vehicles. The two men are suspected of “burglary” and “dishonestly appropriating a motor vehicle,” and are currently being detained for investigation.
Assistant Commander (Criminal) of the Lantau District Police, Superintendent Chan Ka-ying, said the incident happened at around 11 p.m. on March 23. The offenders broke into a seafood restaurant located on Ma Wan Chung, Tung Chung. At the time, the staff were cleaning and preparing to close for the night. The offenders used a cleaver to pry open the cash register, stealing about cash of 2000 yuan, two spare keys for private cars, a company chop, 2 uncashed cheques, and 2 ledger books. After getting away with the loot, the offenders fled immediately, and the person-in-charge of the restaurant later discovered that the two private cars had been stolen.
The case was taken over by the Criminal Division of the Lantau District Police for investigation. After reviewing a large number of closed-circuit televisions and the closed-circuit television system under the “Sharp Vision Plan,” officers successfully identified the two men involved and the location where the two stolen vehicles were kept. On the day before yesterday (the 2nd), the two stolen vehicles were recovered on an unnamed lane near the Castle Peak Road, Kwu Tung section.
Police said that yesterday they arrested two local men, aged 37 and 29 respectively, in Sheung Shui and Wo Hop Shek. They reported being unemployed. During the operation, police recovered some of the stolen items, including two spare car keys for the stolen vehicles, the driving licence/vehicle registration document for one of the stolen vehicles, and the two restaurant ledger books.
