The first water-water transshipment multimodal transport cargo in Gongbei Customs District has successfully cleared customs.

On the evening of April 4, with a long whistle of a locomotive, a batch of cargo departing from Gaolan Port for export was transported by vessels on domestic feeder routes to Haikou Yangpu Port, and was then seamlessly transferred to international vessels for onward shipment to Vietnam. This marks the official rollout of the pilot program for the water-to-water transshipment multimodal transport regulatory model in the Gongbei customs area, and also marks that Zhuhai-made products have, via the Hainan Free Trade Port, entered a new “one order, all the way” mode of going to sea. Under the traditional model, when goods are transshipped from inland waterways or feeder ports to an international hub port, businesses need to submit documents multiple times at the place of dispatch and the transshipment location, and handle customs clearance and verification procedures. Under the new model, goods can achieve “one-time declaration, a single document that connects the whole route, and one container all the way.” (CCTV News)
