Do you remember the story about the pizza for 10,000 BTC? Well, Laszlo Hanyecz just admitted that he actually spent much more than that on pizzas. It turns out he mined about 100,000 BTC in the beginning, and half of them were spent on pizza — he just didn’t hold back and was willing to overpay.
Laszlo said that he earned a few thousand dollars from all these transactions, which was enough to buy himself a new computer. But here’s the interesting part — Hanyecz himself considers a more significant moment in his life not to be the purchase of pizza on May 22, 2010, but that he managed to port Bitcoin from Windows to macOS. Satoshi Nakamoto approached him for help because he didn’t know how to build for Mac. Laszlo handled the task, and his source code was later circulated online.
Interestingly, in the history of cryptocurrencies, people often remember the pizza rather than Hanyecz’s technical achievement. The current price of BTC is around $66.85k with a -0.24% change over the past 24 hours.
