I just learned about Kite, a pretty interesting Layer 1 blockchain being built for AI agents. What is Kite and why is it getting so much attention? It is an EVM-compatible blockchain platform, specifically designed to enable AI agents to automatically execute transactions safely and verifiably.
The key feature here is Kite's architecture. It uses a three-layer identity system: user (the primary owner), agent (each with their own wallet generated from a master key according to BIP-32), and (a temporary identity session for short-term actions). This design significantly enhances security because if a session key is compromised, it only affects a single interaction, whereas if an agent's key is exposed, actions are still restricted by user-defined rules.
Technologically, how does Kite handle payments? It uses state channels that allow agents to transact directly off-chain in a secure manner. Only opening and closing the channel are recorded on-chain; all other transactions happen instantly. This approach supports micro-transactions, enabling agents to exchange small values, pay for services, or access data without high fees.
Regarding the ecosystem, Kite employs a Module structure—semi-independent communities focused on specific use cases. Module owners oversee members and distribute rewards. Participants earn KITE based on their contribution levels. Developers building AI services are rewarded when others use their assets, module owners earn revenue from on-chain activities, and validators earn staking rewards.
What about the KITE token? KITE is the native token of the protocol, with a maximum supply of 10 billion tokens. Its utility is implemented in two phases. Phase 1 focuses on liquidity: (module owners lock KITE in liquidity pools), access to the ecosystem (requires holding KITE), and incentives. Phase 2 adds service fees: (AI service fee conversion protocol from transactions into KITE), staking (to earn network security rewards), and governance (voting on upgrade proposals).
Recently, KITE was listed on a major exchange through a launchpool program at the end of October last year. A total of 150 million KITE were allocated, representing 1.5% of the total supply. Currently, the price of KITE is around $0.15, up 3.78% in the past 24 hours, with a market cap of approximately $265 million.
Kite’s use cases are quite diverse. In retail, AI agents can handle online shopping with secure authorization. In manufacturing, automating sourcing and ordering. Automated portfolio management with programmable risk controls. Digital services—agents directly pay for API costs, data, and tools using stablecoins.
Overall, what is Kite? It’s a pretty exciting effort to integrate AI agents into the digital economy via blockchain. With verifiable identities, programmable governance, and real-time payments, this platform opens new ways for AI agents to transact and collaborate securely on-chain. If you’re interested in the intersection of AI and blockchain, this is a project worth watching.
