Uber and the New York State Trial Lawyers Association are clashing over a proposed bill in New York that aims to lower auto insurance premiums by capping damages. Governor Kathy Hochul supports the bill, which would also limit payouts in cases where motorists are mostly at fault or impaired. While trial lawyers oppose the measure, Uber, a major auto insurance purchaser, is heavily lobbying for its passage, arguing the current system is prone to fraud.
