Nvidia Confirms $1 Billion Investment in OpenAI, Empty Promises Denied

Nvidia is ready to complete a $30 billion investment in OpenAI, in line with long-term confidence in leading AI players. This amount is lower than the initial planned investment of $100 billion announced a few months earlier. According to the Financial Times, the latest deal demonstrates Nvidia’s commitment to continue supporting the expansion of artificial intelligence infrastructure, despite scaling adjustments. CEO Jensen Huang responded to rumors of reduced commitment by saying that such assumptions are complete nonsense.

OpenAI Valued at $850 Billion in Funding Round

OpenAI’s latest funding round is estimated to value the company at $850 billion, reflecting exponential growth in the valuation of the language model development platform. Nvidia’s participation in this round affirms infrastructure investors’ confidence in the long-term prospects of generative AI.

Jensen Huang emphasized that Nvidia intends to make significant investments in the OpenAI ecosystem. The Nvidia CEO’s statement firmly denies the circulating narrative that the company has withdrawn or reconsidered its initial investment framework. “Sam is closing the funding round, and we will definitely be fully involved,” Huang said, referring to Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI.

Nvidia’s Strategic Commitment to OpenAI AI Infrastructure

In September last year, Nvidia announced its intention to invest up to $100 billion to support the development of next-generation OpenAI infrastructure. The funds are intended to finance the expansion of large data centers equipped with high-performance GPUs, the core computing engines of modern generative AI systems.

Huang has consistently described OpenAI as one of the most influential companies in the digital era, highlighting Nvidia’s fundamental role in providing the hardware stack underpinning the AI revolution.

Nvidia GPUs as the Foundation of the AI Infrastructure Boom

Nvidia has become the dominant supplier in the advanced processor market for training and operationalizing large language models (LLMs). Products like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini rely on Nvidia GPU technology for optimal performance.

AI developers worldwide have allocated significant investment shares to Nvidia GPUs, competing to build data centers capable of handling the increasing demand from corporate and consumer sectors for AI services. The wave of AI investments continues despite market caution, with billions directed toward energy-intensive infrastructure.

AI Investment Momentum Remains Strong Despite Market Volatility

Although the $30 billion figure indicates a more moderate allocation compared to previous plans, this investment remains one of the largest private funding commitments in modern technology history. Nvidia’s decision to proceed with substantial investments in OpenAI reinforces the strategic alignment between the two companies and demonstrates ongoing confidence in the long-term growth trajectory of AI infrastructure, even amid broader global market uncertainties.
