International Data Corporation (IDC) states that due to the surge in memory chip prices increasing costs, the global smartphone market will experience its largest annual decline ever in 2026, with shipments expected to drop 12.9% to 1.12 billion units, the lowest level in over a decade. IDC notes that strong demand for memory in data centers has squeezed supply for consumer electronics, forcing manufacturers to raise prices. This year, the average selling price of smartphones is expected to rise 14% to a record high of $523. Android manufacturers will face greater pressure, while Apple and Samsung are expected to expand their market share through high-end positioning and stronger balance sheets. (First Financial)
