Chinese Permanent Representative to the United Nations Fu Cong stated on the 18th during the general debate of the 2026 session of the Special Committee on the Charter of the United Nations and Strengthening the Role of the United Nations that in the face of a complex international situation, upholding multilateralism, strengthening the role of the United Nations, and reforming and improving global governance are shared expectations of all countries. The international community needs to abide by the UN Charter and uphold the authority of the United Nations more than ever. Fu Cong said that China has proposed a global governance initiative, calling for respect for sovereignty and equality, adherence to international law, practice of multilateralism, a people-centered approach, and a focus on action. China is willing to take the global governance initiative as a guide, work with all parties to uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, practice a global governance concept of consultation, joint construction, and shared benefits, promote the building of a more just and equitable global governance system, and jointly move toward a community with a shared future for mankind.
