WeRide and Uber Officially Launch Autonomous Rides in Dubai: Expanding Robotaxi Services to Premium Tourist Districts
WeRide (WRD) and Uber Technologies (UBER) have officially unveiled their Robotaxi rides on the Uber app in Dubai, marking a significant milestone in autonomous vehicle deployment across the Middle East. The service is now accessible to passengers in Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah, two of the emirate’s most sought-after tourist destinations, offering riders a chance to experience next-generation autonomous transportation firsthand.
The partnership leverages Tawasul as the primary fleet operator, responsible for managing WeRide’s autonomous vehicle fleet on Uber’s platform. This operational arrangement ensures seamless service delivery while maintaining WeRide’s core robotaxi technology standards.
Jennifer Li, WeRide’s CFO and Head of International Operations, highlighted the company’s ambitious trajectory: “Our expansion across the Middle East and beyond reflects our core mission to deploy tens of thousands of Robotaxis by 2030.” This deployment target underscores WeRide’s confidence in scaling autonomous ride-sharing services globally within the coming years.
The Dubai launch represents more than just a local market entry—it demonstrates how autonomous vehicle operators are gaining real-world traction in high-profile markets. By securing premium tourist zones as initial service areas, WeRide gains valuable operational data while building brand recognition among international travelers. Passengers booking rides through the Uber app will now have direct access to autonomous vehicle options alongside traditional ride services, creating a hybrid mobility ecosystem that suits varying preferences and use cases.
