Trump signs Epstein case transparency law, requiring the Justice Department to release investigation documents within 30 days.
Breaking news, U.S. President Trump has officially signed a bill on November 19 local time, approving the release of all non-confidential files related to the Jeffrey Epstein case. This decision marks a significant breakthrough in the long-standing dispute over the release of Epstein's files.
The bill was just passed in Congress with a rare high vote margin the day before it was signed. On November 18, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the bill with an overwhelming majority of 427 votes in favor and 1 against, followed by the Senate passing it unanimously that evening, demonstrating broad bipartisan support.
According to the requirements of the bill, the U.S. Department of Justice will release all non-confidential records, documents, communications, and investigative materials related to the case investigation and prosecution within 30 days.
In fact, Trump had promised to release the files during his 2024 campaign, but in July this year, the Department of Justice and the FBI released a memorandum denying the existence of a "blackmail client list" and murder evidence, and announced that no more documents would be released. However, with the recent bill progressing in Congress, Trump ultimately completed the signing of the bill.
The Epstein case has continued to attract global attention due to its involvement of numerous American political and business elites. He was accused of organizing underage sex trafficking at private islands and other locations, with the youngest victim being only 14 years old. Although officials determined that he committed suicide in prison, the discovery of suspicious findings, such as a broken hyoid bone during the autopsy, has kept speculation about murder alive.
In fact, before the passage of this bill, some documents related to the Epstein case had been disclosed in succession. In January 2024, a New York district judge ordered the release of more than 200 relevant court documents, revealing the codenames of nearly 200 individuals involved in the case.
In February 2025, the Department of Justice also released the first batch of documents. However, during this process, the Democrats and Republicans had accused each other's high-ranking figures of having associations with Epstein.
In summary, this bill's mandate for transparency reflects an escalation in the demand for accountability and information transparency in American politics, while also exposing the rifts between the two major political alliances.
As the Department of Justice gradually releases related documents over the next month, this far-reaching and shocking scandal may reveal more truths, the outcome of which not only pertains to individual case justice but will also test the transparency and credibility of the American judicial system.
