Ethereum: Are the whales accumulating while the retail investors are selling?
The market dynamics in Ethereum are showing an interesting pattern according to data from Santiment. Large holders (whales with +1,000 ETH) have accumulated 1.5 million ETH in the last month, equivalent to ~$3.78 billion. With this buy out, they now control almost 27% of the total supply.
While this is happening, small investors are doing the opposite: taking profits. This divergence typically signals different investment horizons - institutions betting on the long term versus retail traders securing returns.
Institutional signals that reinforce the bullish thesis
ETH spot ETFs break records: They accumulate $3.85 billion in net inflows after 19 consecutive days of fundraising. When these funds receive money, their managers must buy real ETH to back the shares, generating genuine buying pressure.
Institutional Leverage: Large companies are now resorting to debt to accumulate ETH ( similar to Michael Saylor's strategy with Bitcoin). This is a sign of long-term confidence.
The price factor
Despite this mixed flow (whales buying vs retail selling), ETH remains stable around $2,520, without clear capitulation. This suggests that the current price level has enough institutional demand to absorb the retail selling pressure.
The key question: Does this accumulation by the whales precede a bullish movement, or is it just portfolio rotation? The answer is likely in the upcoming movements of the ETFs.
