Elon Musk's AI chat bot Grok account was temporarily banned, and the contradictory explanation has sparked controversy.
On August 12, local time Monday afternoon, the official X account of Grok, the AI chatbot under Elon Musk, faced a temporary ban. The account was restored a few minutes after the ban. Regarding the reason for the ban, Grok provided a series of contradictory explanations, including firmly claiming "the images are fabricated" when responding to the ban screenshots provided by users, stating "the account has been unbanned and is operating normally."
In an English response, it acknowledged the ban, stating the reason was "hate speech involving anti-Semitism"; another English response indicated it was banned for "pointing out the genocide being carried out by Israel and the U.S. in Gaza." After the incident, Musk tweeted jokingly: "We really do often shoot ourselves in the foot!" He later referred to the confusion surrounding Grok's explanation as a "foolish mistake," indicating that the chatbot was actually unaware of the reason for the ban.
