Dr. Manny Ahmed, founder of CoverDrop and OpenOrigins, emphasized the potential of the "mass bait messaging" strategy to protect the identification of whistleblowers in the age of digital surveillance. CoverDrop, a tool that supports whistleblowers, collaborates with OpenOrigins – a blockchain company specializing in data verification – to create a secure communication channel between readers and news platforms.
According to Dr. Ahmed, CoverDrop generates a multitude of fake encrypted messages between readers and journalists, making all users look like whistleblowers. This helps to conceal the true identification of those revealing sensitive information.
He warned that even encrypted communication could expose whistleblowers, as they are among the few with access to sensitive information. In the context of increasingly powerful AI, governments and intelligence organizations may use AI agents to analyze vast amounts of data, monitoring individuals in detail and efficiently.
Dr. Ahmed calls for the urgent development of advanced defense tools to cope with the increasing risk of privacy loss.
