Summer Mersinger, a commissioner of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission America (CFTC), stated in an interview with Bloomberg that crypto perpetual futures products could soon be traded in America.

"We have received some applications and I believe there will soon be a product listed directly," Mersinger shared, affirming that this will be a positive development for the cryptocurrency industry and the economy of America in general.

Perpetual futures are derivative contracts that allow continuous 24/7 leveraged trading, popular with assets like Bitcoin or XRP. Although they help increase liquidity, this type of product also faces concerns due to high risks for investors.

Mersinger's statement was made just before she left the CFTC to take on the new position of CEO of the Blockchain Association, the leading cryptocurrency lobbying group in America.

Along with Mersinger, three other commissioners will soon leave the Commission, leaving the CFTC with only one member, Brian Quintenz – a supporter of cryptocurrencies and who was nominated by President Trump. The lack of personnel could slow down efforts to regulate and enforce policies related to digital assets in the near future.
