Proposal for Government Bitcoin Reserve from the Deputy: There is Time Until This Date! - Coin Bulletin
Swedish MP Rickard Nordin proposed to the government to include Bitcoin in the country's foreign exchange reserves.
Swedish Parliament member Rickard Nordin stated that Bitcoin has similar monetary properties to gold and could provide effective protection against inflation by being widely used globally. Nordin emphasized that the Swedish government could strengthen its financial stability by adding Bitcoin to its foreign exchange reserves.
Rickard Nordin's proposal particularly covers the Bitcoin assets seized by the state. The member of parliament, who recommends that the Bitcoins confiscated in customs or police operations be held directly in the country's reserves instead of being sold at auction, stated that this way, an additional tax burden could be avoided and the state could make strategic accumulations.
The Swedish Minister of Finance Elisabeth Svantesson must officially respond to Nordin's proposal by April 16. If Sweden takes this step, the country could become one of the first European countries to consider Bitcoin as an official reserve. This situation is expected to influence policies regarding the use of Bitcoin in other countries.
Recently, there has been an increase in the number of countries adopting Bitcoin as a reserve asset globally. Especially after El Salvador's pioneering efforts in this area, a similar move by a strong economy like Sweden could further strengthen the position of Bitcoin in the global financial system.
